It’s really a wonderful life !

See you,

Nicolas from Paris

The Given is the little brother of the 1991 Black. album (or his begotten child) with a folk education and a blues experience gained along a musical landscape “between two churches”;. With good arrangements, melodies limpid like water and naked of all artifices. A good chapter in the Colin Vearncombe/Black career.

Since the mp3 era begun, this is the first album that I listen from start to end in track order…
Thanks indeed, Colin. You are an important part of my life since 21 years… I owe you…

Fantastic,like always.I love your voice….
BUT I MUST SAY…Colin Vearncombe should make songs like this, and BLACK must make songs with more rich arrangments (more keyboards, more sax,)…and I SHOULDN’T TELL TO MR.VEARNCOMBE ABAOUT MAKING MUSIC
Anyway , once again ,thanx for magical feelings….

A complaint! Loving the tracks, but something doesn’t sit right…and I finally figured it out…

Breathing Underwater is too SHORT!! Just as it’s getting going and you expect a 3rd verse (excuse me if I use the wrong terminology) the music fads out to Colins “breathing, breathing underwater”.

It only stand out so much as Colins standard track length is ~5mins…and I tend to find his longer tracks are the better ones! And who says size doesn’t matter?

Hopefully this song will be revisited one day…thanks (yet again) for the great tracks Colin.

‘The Given’ is really good. I love ‘Misbegotten Child’ and ‘Breathing Under Water’. Just been listening to ‘Walk on Frozen Water’ from February 09. It’s really good. Reminds me of some of your earlier stuff. It must be soul destroying to see so many almost talentless people getting airtime and media coverage. Just wanted to say ‘Keep it up’ Colin.

I tend to agree however having listened to the songs I find myself loving songs I didn’t initially like…in particular ‘Chapter and Verse’ makes me feel dirty as I shouldn’t like it (as in that style of music) – but I do!

Thanks again for opening my ears Colin!

ah! and of course, please, take my appreciations like a symbol of admiration. I wouldn´t lose my time giving my opinion if your music were not so important for me. I still think you are a great songwritter. and now, I keep quiet finally. bye!

ah! I forgot to say that I quite like “no second chances” (probably because it doesn´t sound so american folk music…). I´ll listen the rest more times… maybe I can get used to them.
