Dog Tail Soup Gala Night

Posted on Mon 20 Aug 07

saturday was another Dog Tail Soup Presents…gala night and proved to be another very memorable night, not the least of which being Fergus drinking himself up to the Richter scale!
i honestly don’t know how we do it (it’s so;“let’s do the show right here fellas”! …..) but we do…and what a lot of work it turns into.
worth it when it’s over in all kinds of ways.
i love how these shows are not all “me me me”,gives everyone a lift.
personally i got to sing “from russia with love” for the first time.like it.seems lots of others did too for there was fulsome praise lavished around post gig, more than my ability to listen to it!
don’t know why it should be hard to receive praise but sometimes it’s harder than the alternative.
(i don’t expect anyone to believe that…….but people are strange!)
also sang “moon river”,another personal favourite (if done without too much cheese!) and kicking versions of “cold chicken skin” and “go home”……finished the night with a rousing “wonderful life” by order of the audience!hadn’t intended to do it but they were very insistent.
and hey i started it up,the band copped on fast and the choir remembered their parts from a year ago and sang their hearts out!
was told there were neither too many dry eyes or seats after that……..nice one!
Big Mo Seezer had been arranging up a storm in the prior weeks and a beautiful night was had all round;Camila sang some gorgeous Bizet and Almquist and Irish Soprano Wendy Dwyer, our special guest sang Oh Mio Babbino Caro and the two took the roof off with a gorgeous Barcarolle from Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman with the Wild West Choir surging behind them (ooh er missus!).
Really i could go on and on but won’t except to mention the mighty Mick O’Callaghan,a fine local gentle man who stepped in to play a couple of his songs for us and showed what a value there is in good, simple writing (i tell you i look forward to recording him soon in the studio).
can’t wait for the end of arts week party (my liver can……..)
