Book of Celebration

We’re aware that some people could not make it to the memorial service in Liverpool. We set up this online book of celebration to give anyone a chance to share their memories of Colin and his music, along with any messages for the family.

We have now closed the Book of Celebration to new entries, but all previous entries remain below to view.

589 entries.

Got to the age of 49 and had many family members die through that time but Colin death is the first to get to me.
His music helped me through a difficult time and it's stayed with me from when I was 18 his songs and his voice will continue to stay with me and others.
While I can't make the service I will start playing his music at 1pm tomorrow....and I'll just sit on the floor, with my head in my hands.....

Colin, I wish I could be in Liverpool tomorrow, but I simply cannot make it. I never listened to you live. As I told you once over email, your music is in the soundtrack of my life and, I see, in the lives of many that have been orphaned my by your untimely death. Your music stays with us, though, and there are no words to thank you for this. Thank you for everything, for answering to your fans, for your passion and commitment to music and for the beauty you have left us with. The world is a better place because you walked it. Godspeed, Colin, and all the best to your family.

I feel like I Colin has been part of my life for the last few decades. His music was from the heart and will live on for ever. He will be sorely missed by his loyal fans who have followed him through his career from Black to being a fantastic solo artist. He was gracious enough to visit us in Bury appearing at the Met, what a fabulous evening, it will live with me for ever.
His line - 'Be careful what you wish for, it might come true' has stuck with me since I first heard them. Not a bad manta to follow throughout your life. Hope your still making music on the other side - Our loss - there gain.
Condolences to the family. RIP but keep rocking.

This is a first for me but I feel I just had to contribute to this book of celebration. Colin, your music stayed with me from the beginnings like an old friend. It gave me comfort, made me happy, kept me sane and was instrumental in getting together with my partner. I can't say I will miss as I never knew you. I have the music and the memories of what your music brought. I can celebrate this. But my heart and love goes out to those you touched personally.
And to you Colin, sleep tight and thanks for giving me my best friend xxx

Colin's music touched our lives for a long time and that won't change. Even though life was cut cruelly short, I hope what time you did have was overall wonderful. We wish there could have been more.

It's been hard losing Colin. First of my core musical influences to pass on. He will always remain special to me and I will always remember the one time I did meet him in person. He touched many people's lives and his music will live on as a fitting legacy. Gone but will never be forgotten.

Joy Wright Viljoen from Pennington South Africa wrote on 18 February 2016 at 3:48 pm:
You can shed tears that he is gone,
or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all he's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him only that he is gone,
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what he'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on
I am sure this is what Colin would want. Peace & love to Colin's family

Often it was melancholy but also often it was humour. I will miss his voice and spirit but will be able to enjoy his songs.
